Allen Park Police Department issued the following announcement on Mar 2.
Thank you to Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin, and Lt. Danak and her team at the Dearborn Police Bomb Squad for helping us carefully handle a situation we had yesterday with professionalism and expertise. Our Downriver Community works great together with specialized teams and this is another great example of that.
While family was cleaning out a garage of someone who had passed away a few years ago, they came across something that looked dangerous from the Vietnam era. With our APFD standing by our Police officers blocked streets, evacuated and warned nearby homes at that the direction of the Dearborn Bomb squad.
It was x-rayed and evaluated before being moved by their robot and placed into the container to be made safe. It was determined the device was a non functional prop used for training.
Although this device could not have exploded, it was treated as if it could until it could be confirmed. Such things are always treated as if they could go off.
We thank those residents that left their homes, the immediately area, those that sheltered in place, and those that stayed away from the area.
