Tlaib has served as Michigan's 12th District representative since 2019 after succeeding Brenda Jones. Before joining Congress, she represented Detroit in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976 and currently residing there, Tlaib earned her undergraduate degree from Wayne State University in 1998 and received her law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2004.
