The New Economy Initiative (NEI), in partnership with the Gilbert Family Foundation, has introduced MI Small Business Helper, an online platform aimed at supporting small businesses throughout the Detroit Region. The platform was developed in collaboration with regional support organizations, business owners, and SourceLink.

MI Small Business Helper is intended to help entrepreneurs at any stage of their business journey by connecting them to resources and support efficiently. The platform offers a searchable directory of more than 80 organizations that provide free or low-cost tools, programs, and services. It also includes practical business guides on topics such as starting a business, obtaining funding, and opening physical locations.

Other features include a regularly updated database of grant opportunities for small businesses in Southeast Michigan and a centralized events calendar highlighting training sessions, networking events, and retail pop-ups. The resource library provides templates and guides on finance, human resources, legal matters, and marketing. Additionally, the platform offers regulatory information on city and state compliance requirements for Detroit and Michigan, with plans to expand to more municipalities. More information can be found at mismallbusineshelper.org.
