The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenseman Anton Johansson to a three-year, entry-level contract starting with the 2025-26 season. Johansson will join the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins on an amateur tryout for the rest of the 2024-25 season.
At 20 years old, Johansson has spent this season playing for Leksands IF in the Swedish Hockey League, where he recorded 10 points and accumulated 50 penalty minutes over 46 games. In the previous season, he tallied eight points with a plus-three rating and played one game with Leksands IF’s under-20 team. Johansson was selected by Detroit in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft and has achieved 19 points in his SHL career since 2021.
Johansson hails from Stockholm, Sweden, and is related to San Jose Sharks forward Alexander Wennberg. His father, Thomas Johansson, was part of Sweden's bronze medal-winning team at the 2002 IIHF World Championship alongside former Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg. Throughout his development with Leksands IF since 2020, Johansson has shown promise at both under-20 and under-18 levels. Internationally, he earned a silver medal with Sweden at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship.
