Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently highlighted concerns about health care affordability and economic inequality in a series of posts on her social media account.
On September 23, 2025, Tlaib wrote, "453,101 Michiganders will lose health insurance, and premiums in our district will go up $630 per person, if Republicans let Affordable Care Act subsidies expire. Families are already struggling. In the richest country in the world, everyone should have access to health care."
The following day, she addressed economic pressures faced by families and criticized corporate profits: "Too many families are forced to choose between groceries, health care, and keeping the lights on while billionaires and corporations like DTE and Blue Cross make record profits. Proud to join @MIUnitedAction at the Detroit Make Billionaires Pay rally." This post referenced her participation in a local rally advocating for higher taxes on wealthy individuals and large corporations.
On September 25, 2025, Tlaib shared remarks about Congressional Black Caucus Week activities: "Now more than ever, our presence at our Nation's Capitol is critical. Thank you to all who showed up for our 313 Michigan Congressional Breakfast to kick off Congressional Black Caucus Week. Thank you for bringing that Detroit love to the People's House!"
Tlaib has served as the U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 12th District since 2019 after succeeding Brenda Jones. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976 and currently residing there, Tlaib earned her undergraduate degree from Wayne State University in 1998 and a law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2004.
