The following day, September 18, 2025, she posted: "President Trump wants to erase Black history, and has ordered the removal of exhibits and photographs about slavery from our national parks.
We will not let them rewrite American history, including our nation’s violent history toward Black Americans."
Later on September 18, Tlaib commented on free speech concerns: "Trump, backed by Republicans in Congress, is launching an all out attack on free speech in our country and gaslighting people about it.
Journalists are being fired, people are losing their livelihoods, and students are being expelled over their constitutionally protected speech."
Tlaib has served as a member of Congress since 2019 after replacing Brenda Jones. She previously represented her community in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976 and currently residing there at age 46, Tlaib graduated from Wayne State University with a BA in 1998 before earning her JD from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2004.
