The Detroit Red Wings are set to face the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night at Little Caesars Arena. The game marks the first meeting of the season between the two teams. The Red Wings, currently holding a record of 30-24-6 with 66 points, will aim to leverage their home advantage against the Hurricanes, who have a record of 35-22-4 and 74 points.
Cam Talbot, Detroit's goalie, expressed optimism about playing in front of their home crowd. "We’ve been playing some really good hockey at home as of late, so hopefully we can get the crowd into it really early and often," he said.
The Red Wings are coming off a recent loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL Stadium Series held at Ohio Stadium. Despite tying the game in the third period with goals from Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat, they ultimately fell short with a final score of 5-3.
Moritz Seider reflected on their performance against Columbus: “Overall, I think we played really good hockey against Columbus in the outdoor game,” he stated. “Handled emotions and the situation very well, just didn’t come up with two points.”
Lucas Raymond highlighted their high shot count during that game as a positive sign for future success. “If we replicate that game, with that number of shots, I think we’re going to win a lot of hockey games,” Raymond commented.
Michael Rasmussen returned to practice but will miss his third consecutive game due to an undisclosed injury. Head coach Todd McLellan confirmed Rasmussen's absence from contact drills.
Carolina enters Tuesday’s matchup having won two out of their last three games. Sebastian Aho leads Carolina in scoring this season with 59 points and is tied for first in goals alongside Seth Jarvis. Mikko Rantanen has contributed six points since joining from Colorado Avalanche via trade.
Todd McLellan praised Carolina's aggressive style under head coach Rod Brind’Amour: “They play a pressure game all over,” McLellan said. “There’s nothing conservative in their game."
The teams will meet again on March 14 at Lenovo Center before concluding their series on April 4 back in Detroit.
“I think it’s going to be a good matchup,” Seider added regarding Tuesday's clash. “A matter of who really owns the net-front areas."
