Rashida Tlaib, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Michigan's 12th district, has recently taken to social media to express her views on several pressing issues. Known for her active engagement in political and social matters, Tlaib has made statements regarding federal funding for educational programs, community activism, and the violence faced by transgender individuals.
On February 19, 2025, Tlaib addressed the impact of federal funding cuts on Head Start programs. She stated, "I'm leading the Congressional Mamas’ Caucus in demanding that President Trump immediately restores all Head Start funding. Head Start programs are still experiencing the impact of his reckless decision to cut off federal funding and some are now at risk of closing their doors."
Later that day, she highlighted community involvement in protecting essential federal programs. On February 19, 2025, she remarked, "Last night, our residents showed up and were engaged on what they can do to protect essential federal programs. Thank you for sharing your stories and your eagerness to resist together."
On February 21, 2025, Tlaib commented on the issue of violence against transgender individuals with a specific focus on Black trans people. She wrote, "Tahiry and Sam should be alive today, but their lives were stolen from us. They were loved by their families and communities. Every year, trans people are murdered simply for being who they are, and Black trans people are disproportionately targeted. They deserve justice."
