State Representative Josh Schriver has been appointed to serve on the House Oversight Committee for the 2025-26 legislative term. Schriver's role will focus on enhancing government transparency and accountability.
The House Oversight Committee is responsible for examining state government operations, including Auditor General reports and legislation affecting state governance. Schriver will take on the position of Vice Chair of the House Oversight Subcommittee on Weaponization of State Government and will also be a member of the House Oversight Subcommittee on Homeland Security and Foreign Influence.
"We have seen repeated instances of abuse and blatant overreach from state government over the past several years, and taxpayers throughout our state continue to be left in the dark as their money is used for backroom deals with questionable entities," Schriver stated. "These committees are specifically designed to look at these problems and bring change so that we can deliver a better system of government for the people – one that works for the people instead of the other way around. I am committed to getting answers and delivering action."
Schriver highlighted his focus areas within the House Oversight Subcommittee on Homeland Security and Foreign Influence, which include addressing sanctuary hot spots, collaborating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and investigating foreign attempts to purchase Michigan land or influence elections.
In addition to his oversight roles, Schriver will serve on the House Communications and Technology Committee. This committee will tackle issues related to telecommunications policy and emerging technologies.
"I want to focus on protecting our First Amendment and the ability for Michigan residents to engage in political discourse on various platforms without repercussions," Schriver expressed. "The modern methods of communication and technology that we use are at the forefront of Free Speech, and I’m going to be looking for ways to protect that. I’m also interested in looking at emerging forms of technology like cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence. It’s extremely important to ensure these technologies are serving the best interest of every Michigan resident."
