Washington, D.C. – Congressman Shri Thanedar, a former small business owner and member of the Small Business Committee, is thrilled to announce the introduction of the One Stop Shop for Small Business Licensing Act. This legislation would mandate the Small Business Administration (SBA) to create a centralized website with federal, state, and local licensing and business permit information for starting a small business. This would cut bureaucratic red tape, making it easier for individuals to start small businesses, especially for populations that have historically been not granted access, including the marginalization of Black and Brown communities.

“When I started my business, I experienced extensive hurdles, from obtaining permits to obtaining the right licensing requirement. This can be a real headache and financial burden to many of the hard-working Detroiters to get their businesses off the ground,” stated Congressman Thanedar, “That’s why I’m proud to introduce the One Stop Shop for Small Business Licensing Act, which would empower small business owners to pursue their American Dream, by allowing s4mall business owners to navigate complex state and federal requirements efficiently.”

More than 99 percent of Michigan businesses are small– playing a vital role in our economy, driving innovation, creating jobs, and revitalizing local communities. However, the current licensing system poses numerous challenges for aspiring entrepreneurs, with a complex web of regulations varying from state to state and industry to industry. Congressman Thanedar recognizes the need to remove these barriers to entry and empower small business owners with a more efficient and accessible licensing process.

Congressman Thanedar believes that by supporting this crucial legislation, we can promote entrepreneurship, foster economic growth, and encourage new entrants into the market.
