Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has introduced a $3 billion proposal aimed at funding road infrastructure in Michigan. The plan has sparked concerns among business communities within the state and those considering Michigan as a potential base.
While the governor's press release did not provide specific details on funding sources, discussions in Lansing indicate that an increase in the corporate income tax to 8 percent is being considered. Crain’s Senior Reporter David Eggert highlighted this development.
The Detroit Regional Chamber has raised issues with the proposal, noting that "87% of Michigan’s C-corporations – those subject to that tax – have fewer than 100 employees." These companies represent a significant portion of private-sector employment in Michigan, suggesting that the proposed tax increase could impact more than just large corporations.
