Northville District Library (NDL) is pleased to announce the addition of a newspaper to our collection titled, World Journal. Also known as the Chinese Daily News, World Journal is the largest influential Chinese newspaper published in North America, was established in 1976, and publishes 365 days annually. Each publication is anywhere between 36 and 44 pages each day. About 17% of Northville’s population is of Asian descent and growing; this indispensable resource will be a benefit to the community as it is already offered in major cities across the nation through subscription and other large libraries.
World Journal covers mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the general area of Southeast Asia using a neutral tone and features Headline News, National News, and Local news: including Consumer information, Sports, Financial, Entertainment, Home/Life, and Healthcare news. It is chiefly in Chinese, with some English, and has the largest circulation among Chinese American and Chinese Canadian readers. World Journal “has received numerous awards and recognition for its service to the Chinese community,” according to Chinese News Media, the World Journal’s Atlanta Office branch.
NDL receives the Chicago Edition, delivered daily Monday through Sunday. Newspapers do not circulate outside of NDL and can be enjoyed anywhere within the Library. NDL offers a picturesque and homey reading area, located on the main level of the Library, which features comfortable furniture and a beautiful fireplace that is turned on during the colder months of the year. It is not a requirement to have an NDL card in order to read World Journal or any of our other newspapers.
