City of Livonia issued the following announcement on July 26.
The City of Livonia hosts an emergency shelter for residents looking for shelter from the heat.
The Jack Kirksey Livonia Community Recreation Center is prepared to provide a temporary place to stay for Livonia residents who confirm they live in the City.
The Recreation Center has cots, showers and other facilities that can provide short-term refuge for those who may need it. There are also WiFi access and televisions available, along with plugs for cell phone chargers.
Residents may use the facility as a cooling center during its operating hours. Current summer hours are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays; 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Those who need emergency shelter or overnight accommodations must call at least two hours before closing in order to arrange for staffing. Please call (734) 466-2900.
All recreation areas of the facility will be off-limits for emergency shelter users, including the pools, gymnasiums, climbing wall and fitness hub. Those who need shelter will also be asked to agree to a code of conduct while using the site.
