U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit), who made headlines in January when she said in reference to President Donald Trump, "We're going to impeach this mother (expletive)," is now selling T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan “Impeach the MF." At a recent rally, Tlaib got herself on TV, leading a crowd in a chant of the vulgar slogan.
Tori Sachs, executive director of the conservative group Michigan Rising Action, said Tlaib is clearly looking for publicity.
“This latest stunt from our hometown member of (Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's) 'squad' is just another reminder that some elected officials focus more on creating viral content for social media than working to pass legislation,” Sachs told the Detroit City Wire.

“The Squad” is President Trump’s nickname for four freshman Democratic Congresswomen: Tlaib, Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts. In July, Trump received considerable criticism when he tweeted that the four should “go back to the countries that they came from.”
Three of the congresswomen – including Tlaib – are American-born citizens. Omar immigrated to the U.S. from Somalia as a girl and became a naturalized citizen.
Rather than holding contentious rallies, Sachs said, Tlaib would better serve her Michigan constituents by “working to pass legislation to improve health care or pass USMCA (Trump’s trade agreement with Mexico and Canada), which would benefit workers in Metro Detroit.”
Tlaib was on the Impeach Trump bandwagon even before she arrived in Washington last January, Sachs said. She is not surprised that Tlaib is using the fall congressional break to drum up support among her constituents for Trump's impeachment.
Sachs believes Tlaib and fellow freshman U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Rochester Hills) are jumping the gun on calls for impeachment.
Like Tlaib, Sachs said, Slotkin had not read any of the documents released by the President with regard to the whistleblower charges before making up her mind about the current impeachment proceedings. As a result, Michigan GOP members have vowed to vote Slotkin out of office, Sachs said.
Within 24 hours of Slotkin’s announcement in the Washington Post that she had decided to work for the president’s impeachment, the Michigan GOP raised $350,000 to fund the future campaign of Slotkin’s 2020 challenger.
Sachs says people in Detroit and southeast Michigan are tired of Rep. Tlaib's outlandish comments. "I fear her tactics are starting to wear off on her liberal allies," she says.
"Tlaib's racist comments were followed by Rep. Haley Stevens screaming at her constituents that the NRA has got to go while at a gun range. As if those instances weren't bad enough, Gov. Whitmer used children with autism as pawns in her political fight to increase the gas tax. It's as if liberals in Michigan haven't noticed over the past 10 months that they are supposed to be governing now - focusing on issues that people in Michigan care about like passing the state budget, lowering prescription drug costs and improving trade with the USMCA.
“Michigan’s 8th district gave Slotkin a shot, but she and her liberal allies won’t fool them again,” Sachs said.
