On October 6, 2025, Tlaib highlighted ongoing challenges faced by families in Southeast Michigan due to severe flooding and its aftermath. She stated, "Families in my district are still living with the dangerous impacts of severe flooding in Southeast Michigan, including toxic mold. My Fix Our Flooded Basements Act will expand FEMA coverage to include basement flooding damage and provide funds for mold and mildew remediation."
Later that day, she expressed support for tenants confronting housing insecurity and corporate practices in the rental market. Tlaib has served as a member of Congress since 2019 after succeeding Brenda Jones. She previously held office in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014.
