Mick Enders, head coach at Portage Central High School, has been named the Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Week for week three of the 2025 season. The recognition comes after Enders' team, the Mustangs, defeated Stevensville Lakeshore with a score of 57-0, bringing their record to 3-0 for the season. Portage Central has scored a total of 143 points and has not allowed any points in their first three games. The team is currently ranked third in Division 2 and will play Battle Creek Central on September 19 in what will be the 37th meeting between the two programs.

Enders has spent his entire 26-year coaching career at Portage Central and is now in his 16th year as head coach. Under his leadership, the Mustangs have made playoff appearances in 13 seasons, reaching the semifinals in 2013 and regional finals in both 2021 and 2024. His overall coaching record stands at 109 wins and 49 losses.

The Detroit Lions Football Education department interviewed Enders about his team's strong start to the season, his connection to his alma mater and community, and preparations for their next game. Enders learned about his selection as Coach of the Week during an appearance on Head Coach Hangout. The interview and his reaction can be viewed at www.DetroitLions.com/coachoftheweek.

The Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Week Program recognizes one coach each week during the regular season who demonstrates success on the field and fosters character, discipline, football skills, and player health and safety. A panel of high school football media members selects each week's recipient.

This year’s program will distribute $12,000 to support high school football in Michigan through contributions from the Detroit Lions, NFL Foundation, and Carhartt. Each weekly winner receives a $1,000 donation to their school's football program. At the end of the season, a Coach of the Year will be chosen to receive a $3,000 donation for their program. All honorees receive a certificate signed by Lions head coach Dan Campbell and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Now in its 29th year, the program has awarded $515,000 to high school football programs across Michigan.

For further details about the program, contact Chris Fritzsching, Executive Director of Football Education for the Detroit Lions.
