The Detroit Red Wings have introduced their official Centennial uniform to mark the franchise's 100th anniversary. The team, established in 1926 and one of the NHL’s Original Six franchises, has a history that includes previous names such as the Detroit Cougars and Detroit Falcons before becoming the Red Wings in 1932.

The new uniform was designed by the Red Wings in collaboration with Fanatics. It is intended to honor the Winged Wheel sweater and highlight significant moments from the team's past. According to Ryan Gustafson, President and CEO of Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, “Red Wings fans have long embraced the Winged Wheel, and we wanted our Centennial uniform to commemorate its legacy. This design honors the traditions that make Red Wings hockey truly distinctive, while incorporating meaningful details to celebrate this remarkable milestone in a way that stays authentic to Detroit. It recognizes the outstanding players, the defining moments and above all, the devoted fans who have shaped us into who we are today. We believe this uniform will serve as a powerful reminder of our history, while inspiring anticipation for the memorable moments yet to come.”

Each part of the Centennial uniform features elements reflecting different eras of team history. A commemorative Centennial patch will be present on all regular season home and away jerseys.

A tribute to the original Detroit Cougars is included through a redrawn “Cougar D” logo used as a secondary mark on various parts of the uniform such as pants and jersey tags. The number font takes inspiration from uniforms worn during 1927-28.

Elements referencing the Detroit Falcons include striping patterns along hems, sleeves, and socks based on uniforms from 1930-1932. These features use vintage off-white tones for an older look.

The jersey incorporates leather-like patches matching glove colors—a nod to traditional hockey gear—including a diamond-shaped faux leather captain patch reminiscent of those from the 1950s. Other patches include inscriptions like “Established 1926 DETROIT MI” and additional faux leather details.

Craftsmanship also acknowledges historical aspects such as chain-stitched logos first used in 1932 through 1948. The lace-up collar returns as another reference to early hockey sweaters.

Other notable accents are found throughout: The left shoulder displays a Centennial logo patch; inside collars feature an updated “Hockeytown” mark; Stanley Cup-winning years appear inside hems flanked by trophy silhouettes; sponsor patches are integrated on right shoulders.

For headgear, players will wear matte red helmets featuring a vintage Meijer logo decal—marking its first appearance in franchise history.

The Centennial jersey will be worn at more than twelve home games during the upcoming season starting with its debut at Little Caesars Arena when Detroit hosts Montreal Canadiens on October 9.

Fans can pre-order these jerseys beginning September 15 at ShopHockeytown.com—the team’s new online store—or purchase them at Little Caesars Arena starting in early October. Jerseys are available with current player or alumni names or blank for personalization options while supplies last; online orders ship free within United States.
