Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used her social media platform to address issues of corporate accountability, environmental protection, and income inequality.
On September 12, 2025, Tlaib stated on X (formerly Twitter), "I don’t answer to corporations, I answer to the residents of my district. If families saving and investing for their retirement want more transparency on climate risk and corporate greed, they deserve it."
Three days later, on September 15, she criticized federal environmental policy under former President Donald Trump’s administration: "Trump’s EPA is illegally trying to undo clean water protections that keep our families safe from toxic forever chemicals like PFAS that contaminate at least 200 million Americans’ drinking water. The EPA is disgracefully putting corporate polluters first. We aren't going back."
Later the same day, Tlaib addressed income disparity within large corporations: "A Starbucks employee would have to work for 6,000 years to make as much as their CEO. That is why I introduced the Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act, to fight for working families, against income inequality."
Tlaib has represented Michigan's 12th District in Congress since 2019 after succeeding Brenda Jones. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976 and currently residing there at age 46, Tlaib holds a BA from Wayne State University and a JD from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
