Detroit City FC and San Antonio FC played to a 1-1 draw at Keyworth Stadium on Saturday. The match was marked by physical play, with eight yellow cards issued during second-half stoppage time.
San Antonio took the lead in the 21st minute after Jorge Hernández converted a penalty following a handball by Detroit’s Ates Diouf. Detroit City responded in the second half when Kobe Hernandez-Foster scored from a free kick in the 66th minute, leveling the score.
Danny Dichio made several adjustments to Detroit City's lineup compared to their previous match against Tampa Bay Rowdies. Carlos Saldaña started in goal, with Haruki Yamazaki, Michael Bryant, Devon Amoo-Mensah, and Matt Sheldon forming the back line. The midfield included Kobe Hernandez-Foster, Ryan Williams, Alex Villanueva, and Jeciel Cedeño. Darren Smith and Ates Diouf started as strikers.
Detroit had more possession early but did not register any shots on target within the first 15 minutes. Their closest chance in the first half came when Hernandez-Foster’s free kick found Darren Smith, whose attempt missed high.
Stephen Carroll entered for Matt Sheldon at halftime as Detroit looked for an equalizer. After sustained pressure in the second half, Hernandez-Foster’s goal brought Detroit level.
Isaiah LeFlore made his debut for Detroit City after joining on loan Friday and replaced Alex Villanueva in the 73rd minute. Jay Chapman also came on late for Jeciel Cedeño.
The closing minutes of the game saw multiple altercations resulting in yellow cards for players from both teams: LeFlore, Bilal Obeid, Jeciel Cedeño, Mohamed Omar, Nicky Hernandez, Jay Chapman, Almir Soto, Jorge Hernández, and Santiago Patiño were all booked during stoppage time.
With this result, Detroit City remains fifth in the Eastern Conference standings.
