Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of statements on her official social media account addressing issues related to Palestinian human rights and civic participation.
On July 28, 2025, Tlaib shared an account involving Adam Shapiro and his wife, Huwaida Arraf. She wrote: "Adam Shapiro watched live as Israeli forces stormed the Freedom Flotilla in international waters and detained his wife, Palestinian American human rights lawyer Huwaida Arraf and 20 others for trying to deliver food to Gaza. Thank you Huwaida Arraf, for your courage and".
Later that day, Tlaib encouraged Michigan residents to participate in early voting. In her post dated July 28, 2025, she stated: "You can vote early in Michigan right now! Make your voice heard. Find your early voting location at https://t.co/NYHOkpBFRG. https://t.co/C5BRGC70mI".
On July 29, 2025, Tlaib addressed concerns about student activism at the University of Michigan. She wrote: "The University of Michigan is actively intimidating and targeting students and recent graduates for their advocacy for Palestinian human rights. I recently met with interim UofM President Grasso to express my outrage over this ongoing repression of Palestinian solidarity and".
Tlaib has served as a member of Congress since 2019 after replacing Brenda Jones. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976, Tlaib holds degrees from Wayne State University (BA) and Thomas M. Cooley Law School (JD). She continues to reside in Detroit while representing her constituents at the federal level.
