The Detroit Regional Chamber Political Action Committee (PAC) has endorsed Fred Durhal, a former state legislator and current Detroit City Council member, for the upcoming mayoral primary in Detroit. The endorsement highlights Durhal's consistent support for economic growth and development, along with his detailed policy proposals aimed at continuing Detroit's economic progress.
Sandy K. Baruah, President and CEO of the Detroit Regional Chamber, and David Foltyn, Chairman of Honigman and Chamber PAC Chairman, stated that "As the largest business association in Michigan...our Political Action Committee approved by the necessary two-thirds majority...an endorsement of Councilman Fred Durhal in the mayoral primary election." They praised Durhal's strong focus on economic development and understanding of city and state policy.
The PAC believes this endorsement will help position Durhal competitively in the primary election. They expect him to foster a competitive business climate if elected as mayor. Brian J. Shoaf, Vice President of Public Policy and Business Advocacy for the Chamber, noted that "After thoughtful debate and discussion, the Detroit Regional Chamber PAC found Councilman Fred Durhal’s plans best aligned with its goals to drive business growth."
The endorsement follows a debate hosted by the Chamber at the 2025 Mackinac Policy Conference in May where five mayoral candidates participated. The Chamber expressed gratitude to all candidates who engaged with their Political Action Committee during this process.
