Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who has represented Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019 and previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives, recently shared updates on community events and national policy issues through her social media posts.
On July 10, 2025, Tlaib expressed her pride in participating in a local cultural event, stating, "I was so proud to join Sunny Spices for the 22nd Annual African Festival at Eliza Howell Park. We ate great food, danced to Afrobeats, and celebrated culture, tradition, and Detroit’s rich African heritage together."
Later that day, she highlighted the achievements of young people in Detroit through another post: "So proud of our YouthBuild graduates in Detroit! These students are young leaders who are building up their futures and our city. From repairing homes to earning their certification, they’ve shown what’s possible when we invest in our youth. Detroit is better because of them."
On July 11, 2025, Tlaib addressed national immigration policy by referencing constitutional law: "The text of the 14th Amendment is as clear as day: if you are born here, you are a US citizen. Trump and his white nationalist goons cannot, and will not, change that."
Tlaib was born in Detroit in 1976 and continues to reside there. She holds a BA from Wayne State University (1998) and a JD from Thomas M. Cooley Law School (2004). She succeeded Brenda Jones as representative for Michigan’s 12th district.
