Republican state legislators from Michigan recently visited Washington, D.C. to engage with key officials from President Donald Trump’s administration. State Representative Jaime Greene and State Senator Kevin Daley participated in discussions centered on education, housing, and job restoration in Michigan.

“Our conversation with President Trump’s cabinet made it apparent just how much he shares our focus on turning around Michigan’s declining schools and economy,” said Daley, R-Lum. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a cooperative relationship with federal officials as they work to address issues in the state's educational performance, housing market, and business environment.

The meeting included Education Secretary Linda McMahon, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, along with senior officials from the Department of Treasury and Domestic Policy Council.

Greene highlighted her meetings with Lutnick and Turner due to their departments' impact on rural broadband development—a key area of her recent work. As chair of the House Communications and Technology Committee, Greene has been advocating for greater access to the Broadband, Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program managed by Lutnick's Department of Commerce.

“The BEAD program is a great example of the kind of federally administered public service that can improve the lives of countless Americans,” said Greene, R-Richmond. She stressed the need for coordination between state and federal levels to achieve these goals.
