Forward prospect Nate Danielson reflected on his first full season with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League (AHL). The 2024-25 season provided Danielson with a clearer understanding of life both on and off the ice.
“The first two weekends here this season, those were a bit of an eye-opener for me,” Danielson shared with DetroitRedWings.com. He noted that despite playing a few playoff games last year, it was only after experiencing travel and regular play that he began to find his game and become comfortable.
Danielson concluded his campaign with 39 points, including 12 goals and 27 assists over 71 regular-season games. He also contributed one goal in three Calder Cup Playoff matches. “My confidence has grown over the year, and I just feel a lot more comfortable from the start of the year until now,” he said.
The transition from junior hockey to the AHL required adjustments for Danielson. “It’s a different game, from junior to this league,” he remarked. He emphasized learning when to take risks during gameplay as part of his development process.
Focusing on becoming a complete player, Danielson highlighted his defensive and offensive responsibilities: “Trying to be responsible, defensively as well as offensively.” His efforts included working closely with team resources such as Red Wings Player Development Consultant Dwayne Blais and Assistant Director of Player Development Dan Cleary.
Looking ahead to the offseason, Danielson plans to continue honing his skills. “I’ll definitely go home for a little bit,” he said about spending time in Red Deer, Alberta before returning to Michigan in August for training camp preparation.
