Detroit City Football Club secured a 2-1 victory over Union FC Macomb in Romeo, Michigan. The match saw Detroit City, also known as Le Rouge, claim their fourth consecutive win in the W League.
The game began with Detroit City setting the pace but facing challenges in maintaining possession in the attacking third. Despite this, they took an early lead when Sophia Romine scored from 25 yards out in the 20th minute. This goal was significant for Romine as it was scored at her former high school grounds.
Ella Kane nearly doubled Detroit's lead in the 40th minute with a shot that hit the crossbar. As halftime approached, Mira Webster replaced Maia Soulis for Le Rouge.
In the second half, Detroit continued to press Union Macomb's defense. Romine forced a diving save from Macomb's keeper in the 48th minute, and Abby Smothers did similarly with a shot inside the box in the 56th minute.
Detroit made strategic substitutions throughout the match, including Drew Martin and Camryn Evans entering for Abby Smothers and Hannah Crum in the 62nd minute, followed by Sophia Enwright replacing Tatiana Mason in the 68th minute.
Union Macomb managed to equalize in the 81st minute through a counterattack that resulted in a goal past Allison Lapoint. This marked Lapoint's first concession since their opening match against AFC Ann Arbor.
Detroit reclaimed their lead shortly after when Ella Kane scored off a corner kick orchestrated by Sophia Romine and assisted by Acadia Murphy. Kane's tap-in at close range sealed Le Rouge’s victory.
With this win, Detroit City now shares equal standing with AFC Ann Arbor atop the Great Lakes Division on 13 points.
