Detroit City FC and Monterey Bay FC faced off at Keyworth Stadium on Saturday afternoon, resulting in a 0-0 draw. Both teams had a few opportunities to score, but goalkeepers from both sides maintained clean sheets.
According to Detroit City's head coach, Danny Dichio, some changes were made to the starting lineup including Morey Doner, Ryan Williams, and Connor Rutz, who all debuted for their first starts of the season.
Detroit City had their first chance in the 23rd minute when Devon Amoo-Mensah attempted a header from a corner kick, which was ultimately cleared by a Monterey defender. Another chance shortly followed for Ben Morris, though his shot was deflected by defenders, resulting in a corner for Detroit. On the resulting corner, Michael Bryant's header just missed the far post.
The second half saw Jordan Adebayo-Smith replace Ben Morris for Detroit. Monterey had a scoring opportunity in the 56th minute from a free kick that was saved by Detroit's goalkeeper, Carlos Herrera.
Further substitutions for Detroit City included Jay Chapman and Ates Diouf replacing Ryan Williams and Darren Smith in the 73rd minute. Jeciel Cedeño nearly scored for Detroit in the 82nd minute, but the attempt was saved by Monterey's goalkeeper. Of note, Sebastián Guenzatti entered the match in the 83rd minute for added attacking strength.
Herrera was once more tested in the 86th minute when Luke Ivanovic from Monterey took a shot, but it was directly at the goalkeeper.
After three minutes of additional stoppage time, the match concluded in a goalless draw. Detroit City will next play against Phoenix Rising FC on the road, with a return to Keyworth Stadium planned for a match against Rhode Island FC in two weeks.
