Detroit City FC experienced its first defeat of the 2025 USL season, losing 2-0 to Louisville City FC on Saturday afternoon in Louisville. The match saw Louisville City FC dominate the first half, taking the lead with a goal in the 20th minute. Detroit City attempted a comeback in the second half, but another goal in the 77th minute secured the victory for Louisville.

For the game, Detroit City Head Coach Danny Dichio made changes to his starting lineup for the first time this season. Goalkeeper Carlos Herrera started in place of Carlos Saldaña, and Devon Amoo-Mensah replaced Shane Wiedt on the back line. The match began with Louisville controlling play in the attacking third, while Detroit's chances mainly came from counter-attacks.

A critical moment came in the 20th minute when a defensive lapse allowed Ray Serrano to score for Louisville. In the 37th minute, Detroit City’s Rhys Williams received a yellow card, followed by a caution for Louisville’s Phillip Goodrum in the 41st minute.

Post-halftime, Detroit City created several scoring opportunities, the closest being a free-kick from Alex Villanueva which was expertly saved by Louisville's keeper. Another chance came in the 57th minute with a shot by Darren Smith, but it was also thwarted by the goalkeeper.

As the game progressed, Detroit made several substitutions, including Ryan Williams and Jordan Adebayo-Smith at the hour mark, with further changes bringing Morey Doner, Connor Rutz, and Sebastián Guenzatti into the match.

In the 77th minute, Louisville capitalized on a turnover, with Emanuel Perez assisting Jansen Wilson for the second goal. Despite Detroit gaining a man advantage in the 84th minute due to a red card against Kevon Lambert, Louisville managed to hold their lead and secure the win.

The result snapped Detroit City's 12-match unbeaten run, dating back to August 24th when they were previously beaten by FC Tulsa. Detroit City FC will next face Monterey Bay FC at Keyworth Stadium.
