The Detroit Lions have announced the acquisition of cornerback D.J. Reed as an unrestricted free agent. Details of the contract have not been made public.

Reed is transitioning to the Lions after three seasons (2022-2024) with the New York Jets. During the 2024 season, he played in 14 games, recording 64 tackles, 52 of which were solo, and contributing 11 defended passes, four tackles for loss, and a sack.

Reed began his NFL career when the San Francisco 49ers drafted him in the fifth round as the 142nd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft following his tenure at Kansas State. He dedicated his initial two NFL seasons (2018-2019) to the 49ers, then joined the Seattle Seahawks, where he played from 2020 to 2021.

Throughout his career, spanning 101 games with 70 starts, Reed has accumulated 405 tackles, 320 solo, alongside 51 pass defenses, six interceptions, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and two sacks.
