The Detroit Red Wings ended a six-game losing streak with a 7-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres at Little Caesars Arena. Patrick Kane led the team with two power-play goals and three assists, marking his fourth career five-point NHL game. "We needed the win," said Kane. "It didn’t matter how it came."
Other notable performances included Marco Kasper with two goals and an assist, Alex DeBrincat contributing one goal and three assists, and captain Dylan Larkin adding three assists. Goalie Petr Mrazek made 23 saves in his return to the Red Wings after being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks.
"There’s relief, obviously," said Detroit head coach Todd McLellan. "The losing streak is over." He noted that while they played well in Ottawa earlier in the week but lost, they managed to secure a win against Buffalo despite giving up three goals.
Buffalo's Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 22 saves, but the Sabres fell short as Detroit's offense took control early on. Tage Thompson scored first for Buffalo, but Detroit responded with three consecutive goals.
Kane praised his teammates' efforts: "I thought Marco and Alex both had great nights not only on the scoresheet but just hunting the puck."
Detroit will next face off against the Carolina Hurricanes at Lenovo Center on Friday night.
