The Detroit Tigers have announced the signing of right-handed pitcher John Brebbia to a one-year contract for the 2025 season. The agreement includes a club option for the 2026 season. Brebbia's base salary will be $2,250,000 for 2025, with the potential to earn $4,000,000 if the club exercises its option for 2026. Should the option not be exercised, there is a $500,000 buy-out clause.

Brebbia joins Detroit as he enters his eighth Major League season. His career has included stints with the St. Louis Cardinals from 2017 to 2019, the San Francisco Giants from 2021 to 2023, and most recently with both the Chicago White Sox and Atlanta Braves in 2024. Throughout his career, Brebbia has compiled a record of 15-21 with four saves and 63 holds. He has maintained a 3.80 ERA over 355 innings pitched and achieved an average of 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings in his total of 354 appearances.

In the previous year, Brebbia spent most of his time with the White Sox before joining the Braves on August 31 for their playoff run. During September, he made five relief appearances for Atlanta, recording a 2.70 ERA over six and two-thirds innings pitched with nine strikeouts and two walks.

Brebbia began his Major League career with the Cardinals in 2017, achieving a commendable ERA of 3.14 across three seasons in St. Louis before missing all of the 2020 season due to Tommy John surgery. After recovering from surgery in late 2021, he joined San Francisco where he led the National League in relief appearances during the 2022 season.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Brebbia attended Elon University in North Carolina before being drafted by the New York Yankees in the 30th round of the MLB Draft in 2011.
