Detroit City FC signs Haruki Yamazaki with potential extension through 2026

Detroit City Football Club has announced the signing of midfielder Haruki Yamazaki on a one-year contract, with an option for an additional year in 2026. Yamazaki, originally from Nara, Japan, began his professional career last season with Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC in USL League One.

In 2024, Yamazaki played in 11 matches for Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC, starting in 10 of them. Over these games, he accumulated 921 minutes on the field and was involved in winning 29 fouls.

Yamazaki also contributed significantly to the Hailstorm's success in the 2024 USL Jägermeister Cup. He started all nine appearances during their cup run and recorded one goal and one assist. Additionally, he created ten chances and completed twelve dribbles at a success rate of sixty percent while winning twenty tackles and eighty-five duels.

Before joining Northern Colorado, Yamazaki spent his final college year at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2023, he started all sixteen games for the Golden Eagles, playing a total of 1104 minutes and scoring two goals along with two assists.

Yamazaki's college soccer journey began at Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia. During his only season there in 2022, he started all twenty matches for the Senators. He played for a total of 1333 minutes and scored seven goals with three assists. Notably, he achieved a hat trick against Alderson Broaddus on October 2nd during an eleven-goal victory.
