The Detroit Red Wings experienced a narrow defeat against the Edmonton Oilers, losing 3-2 in overtime at Little Caesars Arena. Despite earning a point in their second game of the weekend back-to-back set, the Red Wings could not secure a win.

Cam Talbot was pivotal for Detroit with 31 saves, while Calvin Pickard made 24 saves for Edmonton. "Back-to-backs are challenges," said Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde. "Especially three [games] in four [days] and having an opponent like that sitting on us. Pretty impressed with the guys’ effort tonight."

J.T. Compher scored early in the first period, assisted by Andrew Copp and Patrick Kane, giving Detroit a brief lead. "I thought the first period was really good," Copp stated. "Generated a lot of looks, I think we were on top of them."

A fight involving Joe Veleno and Corey Perry stirred up the crowd later in the first period.

Leon Draisaitl equalized for Edmonton during the second period before Copp quickly restored Detroit's lead with assistance from Jeff Petry and Kane. Evan Bouchard tied it again for Edmonton in the third period.

Detroit's penalty kill proved effective late in regulation but could not prevent Draisaitl from scoring just 18 seconds into overtime after receiving a pass from Mattias Ekholm.

"I don’t know if we thought we were still in a 3-on-4 situation," commented Lalonde regarding Draisaitl’s goal, "but it was a simple 4-on-4 situation."

Reflecting on Sunday's game, Lalonde remarked, "A little frustrating, the way things played out there in the third [period]. Not getting our game all the time... A pretty darn good point considering the circumstances."

Lalonde also praised Copp and Detroit’s second line for their performance: “I love the center-wing caliber... They’ve produced and done some good things on the wing.”

Kane noted changes post-first period: "We had a great first [period], and it's nice when we're playing hungry like that... We got to get more on our game, especially when we have a lead."

The Red Wings will next face off against Winnipeg Jets at home.
