The Detroit Red Wings secured a victory against the New Jersey Devils with a 5-3 win at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday. The game, attended by 19,515 fans, featured intense action and several altercations between the teams.
Detroit head coach Derek Lalonde commented on the game's atmosphere, stating, "The entire night had some good emotion for us, which is great." Goalie Cam Talbot was instrumental in the win with 37 saves for the Red Wings, while Jacob Markstrom made 19 saves for the Devils.
Detroit's captain Dylan Larkin praised the team's goalkeepers: "They’ve been great," he said. "Probably the story of the difference from last week."
New Jersey initially took the lead when Nico Hischier scored during a power play. However, Christian Fischer and Alex DeBrincat responded quickly with goals for Detroit within 25 seconds to end the first period ahead. Erik Haula equalized for New Jersey in the second period.
Larkin put Detroit back in front during a third-period power play, assisted by Patrick Kane and Lucas Raymond. Though Hischier scored again to level things up at 3-3, Kane netted another power-play goal to give Detroit a decisive lead. Michael Rasmussen sealed the victory with an empty-net goal.
DeBrincat noted their improved power play performance: “We’ve been struggling a bit, so to see it go into the net a couple times is huge for us.” Lalonde highlighted his team’s resilience: “That was a huge win for us.”
The Red Wings will next face off against Buffalo Sabres as part of a weekend back-to-back set.
