Detroit City FC will make its final trip to the West Coast this season, playing against Monterey Bay FC on Saturday night. The match at Cardinale Stadium is scheduled for 10:00 PM EDT and will be streamed live on ESPN+ and broadcast locally on Detroit50 (WKBD-TV). Fans in Michigan can stream the game for free at www.cbsnews.com/detroit.
Detroit City FC recently secured a 2-1 home victory over Louisville City FC. Maxi Rodriguez scored from a free kick in the 17th minute. Louisville equalized with a penalty just before halftime but went down to ten men early in the second half. Connor Rutz then scored the winning goal in the 67th minute.
Rodriguez was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 29 due to his performance, including his opening goal and assistance on the game-winner.
With their recent win, Detroit City remains in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 45 points, creating some distance from fifth-place Birmingham Legion FC, which has 41 points. They are now just one point behind third-place Tampa Bay Rowdies, who have 46 points.
Monterey Bay FC has struggled lately, not winning a game since early July. In their last ten matches, they have drawn five and lost five, picking up only three points without scoring any goals in their most recent five games.
These teams have faced each other twice since Detroit City joined the USL Championship. Last season, Detroit won 1-0 at Keyworth Stadium thanks to an own goal by Alex Lara. Their only previous match in California ended in a 0-0 draw in 2022.
Next weekend, Detroit City will play Charleston Battery as part of their playoff push. They will return home on October 12th for their penultimate regular-season game against Indy Eleven. Tickets are available at www.detcityfc.com/tickets.
