The Michigan House of Representatives has approved legislation to extend the maximum duration of unemployment benefits from 20 weeks to 26 weeks. The bill, introduced a week ago, was passed by the Democratic-led House on Wednesday.

A coalition of business organizations, including the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, the Michigan Manufacturers Association, the Small Business Association of Michigan, the Detroit Regional Chamber, and the Grand Rapids Chamber, expressed their opposition in a memo sent to House members on Tuesday.
