Today was a busy day at the FD. Spread amongst the routine medical calls was smoke in a hotel (careless cook), a garage fire ( extingiushed by homeowner but boy was that close) and a house fire.
The house fire was a great stop by the crew, who had 2 members out on a medical call in the ambulance, so they were shorthaned. Smoke and flames on arrival with dead-bolted steel doors. A box alarm had been initiated and we thank Lincoln Park and Taylor for joining us. Allen Park Police were there for all of our needs. A fast, safe response time with rapid entry by crews kept fire damage to one room and no structural damage despite ugly dark-gray smoke and limited resources.
But what struck me most was the compassion shown by neighbors to these renters when they came home. Some brought iced tea, and lemonade for the kids. I watched a young couple with a stroller stop once, and then come back an hour later with 3 bags of groceries. I watched another 2 doors down walk up and say, " anything you need..." APFD was able to work with out most gracious hotelier at TownPlace Suites and get this family a comfortable place to stay tonight. Our world us truly full of love.
This renter was wise enough to have renter's insurance. PLEASE, if you rent, get renter's insurance. Soooo affordable.
Sleep well knowing you are covered by the best!
