A civil rights attorney and lifelong Democrat credited former Vice President Joe Biden with helping him make the switch to the Republican party, and he now supports President Donald Trump in the upcoming general election.

Leo Terrell said the single incident that spearheaded his departure from the Democratic Party was Biden's insulting comment to undecided minority voters. The comment was, "If you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or Trump, then you ain't black," which Biden said during a national radio show back in May.

Terrell said he found those words offensive, racist and hurtful.

"I've been a lifelong liberal Democrat and that insulted me, and I think it insulted Americans," Terrell told the host of WJR's "The Frank Beckmann Show."

He said that, coupled with the fact that the Democratic Party has practically abandoned law enforcement, is why he's proudly supporting -- and has already voted for -- a Republican for the first time in his life. 

Terrell said in three and a half years in office, the president has done more for the country than Joe Biden has done in his decades in Washington. Terrell noted the lowest unemployment rate prior to the pandemic, Trump's foreign policies and his actions during the pandemic, including getting ventilators and Navy ships to help fight the coronavirus. Terrell said the problem is that Democrats won't give him any credit.  

He claimed the only policy Democrats are running on is the fact that Joe Biden isn't Donald Trump.

"The Democrats are empty with any policies or programs because everyone knows their policies and programs are extreme left," Terrell said on the radio show. "And this country is not a socialist nation."

Terrell believes Biden hasn't answered questions about whether or not he'll "pack" the U.S. Supreme Court and other questions pertaining to his relationship with his son Hunter Biden and the recently released reports implicating his involvement in foreign affairs. 

When it comes to the upcoming presidential debate, Terrell had some thoughts. "I hope Donald Trump allows Joe Biden some time to tell the American public about his socialist polices, and I guarantee you, that's going to have a very persuasive effect in this election in favor of Donald Trump," he told Beckmann.
