The leader of a faith-based nonprofit in Pontiac, which helps people dealing with homelessness, is appealing to the community to help serve meals to those in need.

Pastor Kent Clark, CEO of Grace Centers of Hope, appealed for donations on WJR's “The Frank Beckmann Show” broadcast.

Clark told Chris Renwick, who was filling in as guest host, that the holiday season represents Grace Centers of Hope’s most important months for fundraising.

“We’re asking once again, if you can -- and I hope you can -- $2.05 provides one person just an absolutely great meal here at Grace Centers of Hope,” Clark told Renwick on the show.

Clark said that the organization doesn’t receive government funding and is dependent entirely on community donations.

“Some of our greatest gifts have been from folks who just reached down and gave what they had, and we’ve seen miracles happen,” Clark told Renwick on the show.

Established in 1942, Grace Centers of Hope is a faith-based, nonprofit located at 35 E. Huron Street in Pontiac, which offers life skills programs for people in southeast Michigan who are dealing with homelessness, abuse and addiction, according to their website.

“Each year, we serve more than 190,000 meals to men, women and children in our life-changing programs, and we recognize that hope for them begins with one meal,” said the organization’s website. “Our Meal Ticket Campaign enables us to provide nutritious meals for only $2.05 per meal!”

Renwick said that there are many generous people in the community.

“I’ve got to imagine that everything that you do to help the homeless or those battling addiction or abuse in our area, that if you’re out and somebody can give you whatever they have, I have to imagine it at least shows you that we’re still living in a world and a community that still cares about each other,” Renwick told Clark, and he agreed.

“The American people are the greatest, most giving people in the world and right here locally for Grace Centers of Hope, which is the largest, oldest homeless shelter in the state, we see them giving,” Clark said on the broadcast.

You can give by visiting the website Grace Centers of Hope or calling 855-HELP-GCH. Grace Centers of Hope funds its $7 million annual budget through private and corporate donors, according to its website.
