The Henry Ford Health System is laying off 2,800 employees as a result of the financial hardships the COVID-19 pandemic has brought.
“I know that news concerning furloughs is painful -- especially for an organization like ours, whose greatest strength has always been our people,” President and CEO Wright Lassiter told ABC 12. “We value each team member’s unique contribution, and this decision does not change that. But we must face these realities head-on.”
All employees who are laid off will be able to keep their heath insurance while being eligible for unemployment insurance, according to ABC 12.
After Gov. Gretchen Whitmer added restrictions to nonessential and elective medical procedures, many hospitals throughout Michigan have been quickly losing revenue, ABC 12 reports.
Henry Ford Health System lost $43 million in revenue in March, Lassiter told ABC 12. Lassiter said that accounts for half of the revenue brought in from the system's patient care, when compared to March of 2019.
