University of Detroit Mercy issued the following announcement on April 16.
Detroit Mercy recognizes the global impact of the coronavirus on students and their families, as well as the financial hardship they are experiencing as they work toward their degree. To help overcome these hardships, Detroit Mercy is pleased to offer undergraduate students a one-time Detroit Mercy CARES Act grant for summer 2020, along with other forms of assistance.
In addition, the University may also offer grants to graduate and professional students impacted by the coronavirus through the Detroit Mercy CARES Act grant. Information regarding the application process for these grants will be available soon.
The Detroit Mercy CARES Act grant provides a one-time $500 stipend for undergraduate students enrolled in at least three credit hours of summer 2020 coursework. This offer applies to non-discounted courses and is available to current students, new undergraduate students, new freshmen and transfer students, and guest students. There is no application process for this grant. Detroit Mercy will automatically apply the grant to the student’s account once they register for a qualified course.
In addition, Detroit Mercy has discounted tuition for 50 online courses to help students continue their progress toward their degree program. Students who are also enrolled at least half time at Detroit Mercy may be eligible for financial aid through federal grants, loans and University scholarships.
Detroit Mercy’s approximate 300 sections of scheduled courses for the summer will be available to students via the University’s online platform. The term begins May 4. Undergraduate guest students interested in attending Detroit Mercy this summer can enroll with an approved Michigan Uniform Guest application from their home institution. Students may email completed applications to registrar@udmercy.edu.
Juniors and seniors in high school can also take advantage of these online classes through Detroit Mercy’s dual enrollment program. Recent high school graduates, especially those who have been accepted to Detroit Mercy, are encouraged to apply today.
