WAYNE COUNTY, MICHIGAN: Juvenile Charged in Death of Newborn Infant

Wayne County, Michigan issued the following announcement on Oct. 9

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 16-year-old female (DOB: 02/19/2003) of Detroit, as a juvenile, in connection with the death of her newborn infant.

On February 21, 2019 at approximately 11:30 p.m., EMS was dispatched to an address in the 9100 block of Agnes in response to a call for assistance for the juvenile for an unknown medical condition. Medics transported her to a local hospital for treatment. It was later discovered that earlier in the day on February 21, 2019, the juvenile respondent gave birth to an infant in a toilet in the Agnes apartment. It is alleged that that she fatally stabbed the infant multiple times. After the stabbing, it is further alleged that she wrapped the infant in a towel, placed her in a purse and hid the body in a closet in her room. On February 22, 2019, Detroit Police officers were dispatched to the apartment and located the deceased infant in the closet.

The respondent has been charged as a juvenile with Second Degree Murder.* A pretrial hearing is scheduled for October 25, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. before Referee Sean Kerman at the Juvenile Detention Center.
