Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing health care policy, local poverty initiatives, and international human rights concerns.
On November 13, 2025, Tlaib criticized recent actions by former President Trump and Republican lawmakers regarding Medicaid. She stated: "Trump and Republicans made the largest cut to Medicaid in history and are kicking 17 million Americans off their health care. Premiums will double for an additional 20 million Americans under this so-called deal."
Later that day, Tlaib highlighted childhood poverty rates in Wayne County and praised a local assistance program. She wrote: "Every child deserves a healthy start. But nearly 1/3 children in Wayne County live below the poverty line.
Rx Kids provides cash assistance to families with newborns in Wayne County. Wonderful to see this life-changing support, rooted in care and trust." (November 13, 2025)
On November 14, Tlaib addressed ongoing violence in Gaza and announced legislative action she is taking with congressional colleagues. She said: "The Israeli government’s genocide in Gaza has not ended, and it will not end until we act. I'm introducing a resolution to recognize the genocide in Gaza and call on the U.S. to take action to fulfill its obligations under the Genocide Convention with 20 of my colleagues."
Tlaib has served as a member of Congress since replacing Brenda Jones in 2019; prior to her tenure at the federal level, she was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976, Tlaib continues to reside there today. Her educational background includes degrees from Wayne State University (BA) and Thomas M. Cooley Law School (JD).
