The Detroit Regional Chamber has extended its congratulations to Mary Sheffield following her election as the next Mayor of Detroit. The Chamber’s Political Action Committee (PAC) had endorsed Sheffield earlier in the year and has expressed its commitment to working with her administration to maintain the city’s economic growth.
Sheffield is now the first woman elected as mayor of Detroit, having defeated Solomon Kinloch by a margin of more than 50 points.
In a statement, the Chamber said it "is also committed to ensuring a successful start for the new administration and stands ready to serve as a key partner and resource for the transition team." The organization added that it offers "the business community’s support in collaborating with Mayor-elect Sheffield to build upon Detroit’s economic progress and foster a competitive business environment."
Additionally, candidates endorsed by the Chamber PAC—Scott Benson, James Tate, and Coleman Young II—secured reelection to City Council.
The Chamber highlighted its ongoing role in city governance: "Over the past 12 years, the Chamber has worked closely with Mayor Mike Duggan and stands ready to collaborate with Mayor-elect Sheffield and the entire City Council to champion policies that support regional growth and foster a thriving, inclusive economy."
