Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of statements on her social media account addressing public education funding, federal fair housing law enforcement, and holiday greetings to Jewish constituents.
On September 22, 2025, Tlaib wrote: "Our kids deserve full investments in public education. We will not let them defund the Department of Education. Thank you to the wonderful advocates for coming to the People's House and raising your voices."
Later that day, she commented on federal housing policy under former President Donald Trump’s administration: "The Trump Administration is actively and intentionally preventing the enforcement of our fair housing laws.
Firing whistleblowers, slashing staff, freezing investigations—this is disgraceful, discriminatory, and must stop immediately."
Tlaib also marked the Jewish New Year with a message to her constituents: "L’Shana Tova to our Jewish neighbors in Michigan’s 12th District and around the world.
I’m wishing you and your family a happy new year." (all tweets dated September 22, 2025).
Tlaib has served as U.S. Representative for Michigan's 12th district since 2019 after succeeding Brenda Jones. She previously held office in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976 and currently residing there at age 46, Tlaib holds degrees from Wayne State University (BA) and Thomas M. Cooley Law School (JD).
