Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of messages on her official social media account addressing cultural celebrations, labor activism, and juvenile justice.

On September 15, 2025, Tlaib marked the start of Hispanic Heritage Month with a message recognizing the contributions of Hispanic communities across the country. She wrote, "Happy #HispanicHeritageMonth! From Detroit to communities across the nation, we celebrate the culture, history, and resilience of our Hispanic communities, whose vibrant contributions have shaped our country."

The following day, September 16, 2025, Tlaib honored Michael Friedman for his work supporting unions and workers’ rights. In her post she stated: "Proud to honor the life and legacy of Michael Friedman, a tireless champion of unions and empowering working people. From Jewish Voice for Peace in Detroit to the Teamsters and beyond, Mike dedicated his life to justice. His vision will continue to guide us. Rest in Power."

Later that same day, Tlaib criticized Republican efforts related to juvenile justice policy. She wrote: "Republicans want to prosecute 14-year-olds as adults in court. This is a disgusting act of child abuse with life-long consequences that only makes it harder for these young people to get the help they need."

Tlaib has served in Congress since 2019 after succeeding Brenda Jones as representative for Michigan’s 12th district. She previously held office in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976 and currently residing there at age 46, Tlaib holds degrees from Wayne State University (BA) and Thomas M. Cooley Law School (JD).
