U.S. Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district, posted a series of statements on September 10, 2025, criticizing federal immigration and defense policies as well as congressional financial conflicts of interest.
In her first post on September 10, Tlaib addressed actions by the Trump Administration regarding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients. She wrote, "The Trump Administration is trying to illegally dismantle DACA right before our eyes—targeting and abducting Dreamers who have been part of our communities since childhood and have clear legal protections. DHS must immediately release Xóchitl Santiago and all DACA recipients."
Later that day, Tlaib commented on congressional debate over military spending. On September 10 at 19:18 UTC, she stated, "Here we are debating another obscene budget for the Pentagon war machine. It's sick that Members of Congress benefit financially when they vote to pass more funding for war because they own stock in defense contractors. We need to ban this corruption. They should not be able to"
In a subsequent post on the same date at 22:43 UTC, Tlaib reiterated her opposition to increased military spending: "I voted against sending another $892.6 billion to Trump’s 'Department of War.' It’s time our government finally invests in life and stops funding death."
Tlaib has served in Congress since 2019 after replacing Brenda Jones and previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976, she continues to reside there and holds degrees from Wayne State University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
