The Detroit Regional Chamber Political Action Committee (PAC) has announced its endorsement of Mary Sheffield for the 2025 Detroit mayoral election. The PAC also revealed its support for several candidates in upcoming city council races.
According to the Chamber PAC, input from various board members and the results of the primary have shaped their decision to back Sheffield. The organization emphasized the importance of supporting a candidate they believe is best equipped to continue Detroit’s progress and address business community needs.
The Chamber stated it has been working to strengthen its relationship with Council President Sheffield and intends to continue advocating for policies that promote job growth in the region. As preparations for the general election move forward, Sheffield is identified as the preferred candidate among regional business leaders.
In addition to endorsing a mayoral candidate, the Chamber PAC selected city council candidates based on legislative experience, policy priorities, and interviews. Those endorsed include Coleman Young II (At Large), James Tate (District 1), Roy McCalister Jr. (District 2), Scott Benson (District 3), and Tyrone Carter (District 6).
“These candidates have demonstrated through their dedication to public service the willingness to solve problems Detroiters are facing,” said Brian J. Shoaf, the Chamber’s Vice President of Public Policy and Business Advocacy. “Each endorsed candidate brings skillsets to the city council to continue the effective work of the previous administration.”
The Detroit Regional Chamber PAC consists of 21 members representing businesses ranging from small enterprises to large corporations. The group meets regularly to guide advocacy efforts and makes endorsements following interviews, surveys, member feedback, and a two-thirds consensus requirement.
