The Detroit Lions have announced that former defensive end Robert Porcher will be inducted into the Pride of the Lions during halftime of their home opener and homecoming game on September 14, 2025, against the Chicago Bears at Ford Field. The Pride of the Lions is a permanent display at Ford Field that honors the most notable players in franchise history.
Porcher learned about his induction when he was surprised by former teammates Jason Hanson, Herman Moore, and Chris Spielman during a Lions training camp practice on August 21, 2025.
"We are thrilled to cement Robert Porcher's legacy as one of the all-time Lions greats," said Detroit Lions President & CEO Rod Wood. "As someone who spent his entire 13-year career in Detroit and holds our franchise record for career sacks, he is incredibly deserving of this honor. He was a model of stability and tenacity as a player and will always be someone our fans and even current players can look up to. We look forward to welcoming Robert back to Ford Field for what will be an extra special celebration when we take on the Chicago Bears for our home opener."
Porcher becomes the 22nd member featured on Pride of the Lions since its introduction in 2009. Recent inductees include Calvin Johnson Jr. in 2024, Lomas Brown in 2023, and Chris Spielman in 2021. Other honorees are Roger Brown, Alex Karras, Herman Moore, Lem Barney, Jack Christiansen, Dutch Clark, Lou Creekmur, Jason Hanson, Dick "Night Train" Lane, Yale Lary, Bobby Layne, Dick LeBeau, Barry Sanders, Charlie Sanders, Joe Schmidt, Dick Stanfel, Doak Walker and Alex Wojciechowicz.
Porcher was selected by Detroit in the first round (26th overall) of the 1992 NFL Draft from South Carolina State. He played his entire professional career with the team from 1992 to 2004. Porcher appeared in three Pro Bowls and was named to the Lions All-Time Team during their 75th season celebration in 2008. He holds franchise records for both career sacks (95.5) and single-season sacks (15.0 in 1999), has more double-digit sack seasons than any other Lion (five), started 158 out of his total 187 games played—second most among defensive players—and ranks third for starts by a defensive player in team history.
