Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on August 13, 2025, addressing concerns about federal actions in Washington D.C. and practices by major grocery chains.

In a tweet from the morning of August 13, Tlaib wrote: "Trump sending in the U.S. military to take over our nation's capital is a test run to target other major cities. This is the work of an authoritarian, deploying the National Guard to silence dissent in D.C. and militarize Black neighborhoods. We cannot normalize this." The statement was posted at 11:19 a.m. UTC.

Later that day, Tlaib addressed consumer protection issues related to grocery pricing technology: "Major grocery chains are using personal data, electronic shelf labels, and surveillance technology to instantly hike prices and rip off shoppers.

My bill will ban this predatory pricing and protect you at the register." This post was made at 2:44 p.m. UTC.

Tlaib also shared additional information for those interested in her legislative efforts with another tweet at nearly the same time: "You can read the press release here

Tlaib has served as a member of Congress since 2019 after replacing Brenda Jones as representative for Michigan’s 12th district. She previously held office in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976, Tlaib holds degrees from Wayne State University (BA) and Thomas M. Cooley Law School (JD).
