Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of messages on her social media account addressing civic engagement, public health, and representation.
On August 4, 2025, Tlaib expressed support for Muslim women in leadership roles by posting: "Muslim women belong in every room where decisions are made. Grateful to stand with Hijab on the Hill to uplift Muslima visibility, representation, and unapologetic leadership."
The following day, August 5, she encouraged Michigan residents to participate in local elections: "Happy Election Day, Michigan! Your vote is your voice! The polls are open today until 8:00 pm. If you haven't registered to vote, you can still do so at your local clerk’s office. For more information and to find out where to vote, visit: https://t.co/X5Yys4bP8A"
On August 6, Tlaib addressed public health concerns related to air quality: "Due to the wildfire smoke in SE Michigan, it is recommended that seniors, children, pregnant people, and those with respiratory or heart conditions stay indoors, avoid strenuous activity, and keep windows closed."
Tlaib has served as the representative for Michigan's 12th District since 2019 after replacing Brenda Jones. She previously held a seat in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976 and currently residing there at age 46, Tlaib holds degrees from Wayne State University (BA) and Thomas M. Cooley Law School (JD).
